Education and Capacity Building
Knowledge Transfer in Developing Countries
A Quality Management Training Project was conducted in Ethiopia, together with the Handwerkskammer Rhein-Main, in 2007-2008. In this project, approx. 20 Ethiopian companies were trained on how to implement all of the required ISO 9001 processes and procedures, and internal auditors were trained. During this time Sycheck staff helped companies in developing countries in Africa to achieve and maintain ISO certifications. Many multi-national companies now require ISO or Social Business Compliance Initiative (SBCI or SA 8000) certifications of their preferred suppliers. This project directly improved the competitive advantage of participating Ethiopian companies.
Main Partner: Handwerkskammer Rhein-Main together with the ECBP (European Capability Building Program) a program within the GIZ (German Society for Working Together Internationally).
In addition to working with the GZI and European capacity building programs, capacity buidling also includes working with German educational groups such as the "Look Over the Fence" initiative or "Blick Über den Zaun" which is currently a group of over 120 schools whos represetnatives, in various working groups, travel to public and private schools within Germany. These "critical friends" provide peer review and assessments according to the collection of best practices in the form of the standard known as "What is a good school?".
Audits have been observed at selected schools including the Montessori Zentrum e.V. in Hofheim am Taunus. Audit results are presented after two days of interviews with teachers, students and parents. This is currently one of the most effective ways to share best practices within the educational industry, as there is currently no globally recognized quality management system for schools.
